Photo and More

Cameraphone

Today the cellphone is a more powerful tool then every for communication. Nokia for example has become the largest producer of cameras in the world. With the advent of Blogging people have taken the camera phone and the blog and created a populare pass time know as moblogging. The craze of shotting and sharing, take the example of Flickr. Taking this idea one step farther, I have created a system which gives returns to the photographer. I started out with the photoblog and the realized over time there were three pathologies of my imagesduring the trial period and previously. One is people, the second is food, and the last is interesting or entertaining photos. The system uses the types of photo to get information by using photos' name to search various sites. The return is sometime an informative annotation but some seridipitious connection. Using the Google API; Image News searches the news of Reuters.com, People does a generic Google search, and Nibbles searches Epicurious.com for food related data. My Photoblog is my test bed and it does a generic search aswell my attemp to try and achieve never thought about results.

Whats is going on?

Using the cellphone and MMS I send a image to via email my server. On the server side there is a shell script which disects the MMS sent get information and the image out. The image is also used to create thumbnails for later use, and sends a MMS notifying the sender of receipt. This shell script then calls a perl script which calls a search based on the image name and gives the first return to the various pages which are also dynamicly built by the perl script itself.

The result is an index page showing the last image taken and the search return, and a WAP 2.0 page which is produces and then the link sent to phone.

Feel free to use the playpen
